Georgia’s Cross-Border E-Commerce Doubles in 2024
Release time:2025-03-10 17:59
Record-Breaking Growth in Cross-Border Parcels
According to recent data from Georgia's Revenue Service, the country's cross-border e-commerce market experienced unprecedented growth in 2024. The number of parcels reached a record 15.1 million—more than double the 2023 volume. The total value of these parcels soared to over 1.4 billion Georgian Lari (GEL), marking a 2.7-fold increase compared to the previous year.
Of the total shipments, 96% (approximately 14.53 million parcels) were valued under 300 GEL, amounting to a combined value of 693 million GEL. The average price per parcel in this category was 47.7 GEL. Meanwhile, around 590,000 parcels exceeded the 300 GEL threshold, contributing to a total value of 747 million GEL, with an average parcel price of 1,265 GEL.
The Role of Foreign E-Commerce Platforms
This significant growth can be attributed, in part, to the expansion of major international e-commerce platforms in Georgia. Temu, known for its budget-friendly product offerings, has gained traction among Georgian consumers. Additionally, Shein has launched operations in the country, further fueling the rise of cross-border e-commerce.
Turkish online retail giant Trendyol has also actively expanded its presence in Georgia. Meanwhile, Russian platforms Ozon and Wildberries made their market debut in 2024, contributing to the influx of cross-border shopping options. With the increasing availability of affordable international products, Georgian consumers are embracing online shopping at an accelerating rate.
A Bright Future for Georgia's E-Commerce Market
The Georgian e-commerce sector is experiencing rapid expansion, particularly driven by demand for low-cost goods. As more global e-commerce platforms enter the market, consumer purchasing power and cross-border shopping activity are expected to continue their upward trajectory in the coming years.
With this momentum, Georgia is becoming a key hub for online retail in the region, reinforcing the shift toward a more digitalized shopping landscape.
